Book – 52 Red Pills
Author – Eika and Siddharth Banerjee
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle
~ Albert Einstein
Book Summary:-
In a society that is designed to steer us away from the more important things in life, this book is the need of the hour.
It’s about the 52 weeks learning challenge that the authors took. They listed about 63 subjects covering a wide range of topics and decided to immerse themselves completely into 1 topic every week.
They followed a 3 step learning process which included:
1 Talking to the experts.
2. Scanning literature available on the topic.
3. Discussing among themselves.
This book covers the entire 52 weeks experience in the form of chapters wherein the process followed and knowledge gained is beautifully presented for each week.
Reasons I liked this one:-
#1: Coverage of important meaningful topics:
The book forces us to think about more important things that most of us are ignoring in today’s time-poor world. We all are so much engrossed in routine affairs that we keep on neglecting the more important things.
#2: Its interactive nature.
There is an exercise at the end of each chapter that includes questions that force us to think. The below image shows one set of the 52 sets of questions and activities listed in the book. The activities that the authors ask us to do are life-changing ones.
That’s not all. To further increase our participation, the authors have left empty spaces to list our,
1. Experiences
2. Learnings
3. Challenges we faced during that activity
These 52 exercises will make sure, the book has far-reaching effects on your learning habits.
#3: Encouragement to begin our very own 52 Red Pills Journey.
The book will force you to embark on your very own 52 Red Pill journey. There are the various thing which we have been waiting to do but are unable to do because of our negligence or “Kal Se Shuru Karenge” attitude. This book might help you to get rid of this attitude.
Favorite TakeAways:-
#1: Time is not an Issue, Attitude is:
The book though not explicitly mentions but definitely puts forth the concept, “Time occupies the space it is provided”. If 2 well-known names of the corporate world can take out time from their busy schedule and involve themselves in such a hyper-learning journey, what’s our excuse?
It’s not the lack of time that’s inhibiting the growth of our learning curve. It’s a lack of our desire to learn, to improve our situation. In other words, it’s our poor attitude that’s not letting the situation change.
#2: Invaluable Well-researched Information on 52 Interesting Topics.
As you can see from the images above, all the 52 topics the authors have chosen are definitely worth reading about. They have covered a vast gamut of topics ranging from the importance of good sleep to claiming back your mornings. from the importance of decluttering your life to the need to channelizing your energy. They have covered them all.
Also Read:- Powerful Lessons on Decluttering your Physical, Mental, and Digital Workspace.
The reason why I found this book extremely helpful is because of the approach it follows.
It not only identifies common but often overlooked topics but also enlightens us with the whole-story from various texts available on the topic which is further corroborated by the words of the experts of those topics.
Favorite Topics from the ones Discussed in the Book:-
1. Good Sleep
2. Decoding Culture
3. Going Organic
4. Ikagai
5. Bio-hacking your Mind and Body for performance
6. The Science of Consciousness
7. Building Mental Resilience
8. Serendipity and Passion
These were some of the topics, the information shared on which really appealed to me.
The Message is Clear:-
1. Identify the field in which you want to improve.
2. Plan the roadmap on managing your time and resources.
3. Start Hustling.
Motivated by this one, I will soon be embarking on my very own 52 Red pill journey.
