The Wikipedia page of Shiv Kumar Batalvi reads “he was most known for his romantic poetry, noted for its heightened passion, pathos, separation, and lover’s agony.”
We all need something in life to derive meaning from. Batalvi derived meaning from Separation. He derived the same meaning from Separation as the Believers derive from their belief in God.
He, in fact, considered himself extremely fortunate that he was served a chance to shoulder separation which in turn helped him steer away from ending up as “yet another lump of Clay in an Empty Graveyard.”
In Batalvi’s words,

Let me Translate it For You:–
“I was extremely Fortunate that this Separation
From You Attached Itself To Me;
Without It, I would Have been Just a Lump of Clay
in an Empty Graveyard.”
This separation gave an unprecedented impetus to his writings. And, he “packed up” becoming one of the best philosophical Punjabi writers of all time.
