Book: Happiness is all we want
Author: Ashutosh Mishra
Publisher: Bloomsbury
First of all, thanks to the author Ashutosh Mishra for sending me a review copy of this self-healing book in exchange for an honest review.
Let’s begin with an enriching quote from this book.
If you don’t take care of your business, someone else will
If you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will.
It mentions the concept of Happiness Treadmill (without naming it) of how at times, we feel we have achieved Happiness after getting admission into a preferred college, getting a good job, buying a new car but soon that Happiness fades away.
It states that Happiness is not only having what you want but also having the ability to enjoy what you have on a continuous basis. The book has so many lessons to offer.
Ashutosh categorizes life into milestones and a final destination, where milestones give us temporary happiness, it is the state of mind and soul that determines the extent of our happiness so we should focus on that.
This book is divided into 3 parts which cover:-
#1: Mental Well-being ( The mind or the monkey )
#2: Physical Well-being ( The Body or the donkey )
#3: Spiritual Well-being (The Flying Horse )
There are so many interesting analogies to keep you entertained throughout.
In one of the analogies, the author Ashutosh Mishra very well highlights our restless mind by comparing it with a monkey. In another, he establishes a link between growth in our income and the growth of our waistline.
Some Insight Into The Book:-
Ashutosh takes us through the path of spiritual cleansing through Vipassana and similar techniques and also unravels the “power of purity” through the practice of “langar.”
The techniques such as Yog Nidra, Reiki and many others suggested in the book for mental wellness really seem to be promising.
The relationship drawn between the body shape and the Self-confidence is something we all can connect with.
The author advocates that the “Self-help is the best help” and encourages us to take the journey of overall well being with his 22 Smart well-being capsules.
For me, the most appealing capsule was “Creation of a wishlist“ to feed the restless mind, which I have already incorporated into my lifestyle after reading this and would be trying to incorporate the rest over a period of the next 6 months.
There are also practical tips for each smart well-being capsule and also a well- being story to corroborate the methods.
In addition to these, there are “Things to ponder” and “Things to do” at the end of each chapter which really is helpful for quick reference.
My Opinion:-
Being on the journey of Happiness myself, let me tell you, this is one of the best self-help books I have read in a long time. It is a source of vast unprecedented knowledge of modern and ancient techniques which is really difficult to find in today’s scenario.
The best thing about the book is that it doesn’t only highlights the problem but also underlines the causes and at the same time comes out with practical solutions. So, basically it’s a complete package of Self-Help in itself.
This is one of those books we shouldn’t be focusing on finishing but on incorporating into our lifestyle.
If you are into self-help books, grab this one and embark on the beautiful journey of mental, physical and spiritual rejuvenation.
Happy Reading!
