Life in the Sunshine by T Sathish | Book Review | HappinessDhaba

Author – T. Sathish
Publisher – Notion Press

I delayed my father’s funeral to play cricket”, said Virat Kohli.

These words from one of the greatest cricketers of all time is enough to understand that Cricket is not just a game, It’s a way of life for its followers.

The same is the story of the “triple sundae” gang i.e. Trib, Sam, and Sat. They are extremely passionate about cricket and want to make a living out of it.

Just like any other Indian cricket fan, they collect money to buy cricket kit, copy the style of cricketers, dream of Ravi Shastri’s Audi and discuss cricket all the time.

Everything goes fine until one day, Javed Miandad hits a six of the last ball and wins the match for Pakistan in Sharjah. The incident gives birth to a ghost(Abdul) who continues to mock them in upcoming India – Pakistan matches thus leaving their cricket viewing experience in tatters.

I felt connected to this situation because similar were my feelings when India lost the World Cup Final to Australia in 2003.

In addition to the cricket matches, the book mentions a lot of humorous incidents such as the author’s decision to start a religion of cricket,  Imran’s search for left-hand batsmen to counter Indian spinners, Sat’s search for copybook, Harsha Bhogle’s becoming a commentator without being a cricketer (the timing of this dialogue) keep you entertained.

There are some life lessons such as “Life is a happy place and we should not waste it wallowing in the past failures”

The book covers all the important matches of the 80’s and the 90’s era with a special focus on India-Pakistan matches. Sathish’s description is so graphic and honest that every cricket lover can feel it. I would recommend every cricket aficionados to read this book. Although People not interested in cricket can avoid it without any hesitation.

Happy Reading!
