Book: Reasons to Stay Alive
Author: Matt Haig
Publisher: Canongate books
Let’s begin with some self-healing lines from this remarkable composition.
How to stop time: Kiss
How to travel in time: Read
How to escape time: Music
How to feel time: Write
How to release time: Breathe.
Reasons To Stay Alive is the true story of how Matt Haig, the author, overcame the depression that had almost annihilated him and learned the “art of living” again. Heart-rending and inspiriting both at the same time, it is not just a book, it is a ray of hope for the low spirited humans. It’s a book about making the most of your time on Earth.
Being someone, who has had firsthand experience of depression, I can undoubtedly say, this is the rawest content on depression I have come across. Each word of this book is as true as it can get. In fact, this is the most articulative narration of what a person in depression goes through.
“You are walking around with your head on fire and no one can see the flames.”

It highlights, how we distance ourselves from the world and at the same time, the only thing we want to be is ‘being normal.’
To ease the situation, he advocates “living in the moment” through an analogy of bottle and time. He says if time was given to you bottled up,
How would you make it last?
“By sipping slowly or gulping?”
️In addition to this, there are so many mind-boggling analogies to make us realize the importance of life. In the end, it leaves us with a strong sense of hope
Our mind is a galaxy. More dark than light. But the light makes it worthwhile.

My Opinion:―
In my opinion, this book has the caliber of serving as a reference book for human life in general. It has appeared just when we humans actually need it. With so many ideas floating around depression and that too from people who have never actually experienced it, this book is definitely the need of the hour. Coming straight from the horse’s mouth, this is something we all can trust.
When in depression, all we need is a ray of “Hope” and this book is full of hope, perfectly resonating with the title, “Reasons to Stay Alive”.
I’ll suggest you all to not only read this remarkable book but also to gift or recommend it to your dear ones so that they too can be benefited from this masterpiece.
