Why To Consult Women When in Difficulties? ― Schopenhauer

Schopenhauer on Women

Schopenhauer’s essay on women is the most disgusting work of literature I have ever read. Hitherto I had this opinion that Charles Bukowski is by far the most sexist and inegalitarian writer humanity has seen.

But recently I came across Schopenhauer’s essay on women and realized that he has written far more sh*t in that single essay than Bukowski wrote in his entire life.

But still, I have this habit of picking up good even from the worst of things. So, here is why you should turn to women when you find yourself in difficult situations ― an idea from Schopenhauer.

Schopenhauer's essay on women

Why you should consult women when in difficulties?

For their way of looking at things is quite different from ours, especially in their propensity for keeping in view the shortest route to a desired goal and in general what lies closest to hand, which we usually overlook precisely because it is right in front of our noses. In addition, women are decidedly more prosaic than we are and see no more in things than is really there, while we, if our passions are aroused, will easily exaggerate and indulge in imaginings.

It’s evident from the above paragraph that he wasn’t able to keep his sexist mindset aside even while praising women. The word “prosaic” in the above quote is as redundant as Schopenhauer’s essay on women
