Who Stole My Job by Sunil Mishra | Book Review | HappinessDhaba

Book: Who stole my job
Author: Sunil Mishra
Publisher: Srishti Publishers

First of all, thanks to the author Sunil Mishra for sending me the review copy of this amazing book in the exchange of an honest review.

Learnability is the most important tool to stay relevant in today’s challenging work environment.

– Prof. Debashis Chaterjee (IIM Kozikode)

And, it has become even more important in today’s AI-enabled world where a car-owning itself, a software maintaining itself has almost become a reality.

The book “Who stole my Job” is about Creative Tech, one of the most successful IT companies in India which of late has started faltering and so to keep pace in the world of startups, is in dire need of what can be called as a “Digital transformation”. To successfully carry out the digital transformation, an American CEO Marshal is hired.

Marshal has a vision and seems capable of carrying the boat of Creative Tech out of the storm.
He talks about ageless software (an inbuilt intelligence in the code that can improve itself over time), the occurring shift from ownership to the service-based concept( Uber, Ola), the flourishing world of startups, of how success should be measured by the revenue you create and not by the number of people working under you and many more.

In order to achieve results, Marshal sets idealistic targets and what follows is an extremely demanding situation that leads to the uncultured firing of many employees.

Among the employees fired is a very competent person named Vikas who actually uses his time during unemployment to rediscover himself.

All this is explained through the eyes of Satvik, a middle-management employee who though is unhappy with the current scenario but doesn’t have the option of leaving because, having worked 15 years in the Creative Tech, he doesn’t have the skill set matching the current market demand. So, he continues to face the brunt of the transformation.

The author, Sunil has frankly unboxed the ins and out of today’s corporate sector. The office politics, the salary mindset, the plight of the middle management employees who with time actually become unemployable and also that smoking corner. (hahahahah)
Being an engineer myself, I was able to completely relate to the scenario presented.

Coming back to the book,
Will Satvik survive in the current market scenario?
Will Creative Tech be successful in the transformation?
How important it is to take a break from your monotonous job?
Grab a copy of this honest book on the corporate sector and get to know the answers.

It is definitely recommended for all the awesome IT engineers out there who have made this digital transformation possible.

Happy Reading!
