Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library is a rundown of the infinite possibilities life carries with itself. It’s about a young woman named Nora Seed who is achingly dejected with the way life has unfolded for her.
One night, her despair soars to an uncontrollable level of hopelessness and she ends up committing suicide.
After the dramatic series of events that follow, she wakes up and finds herself in a place called the Midnight Library, a quantum state that allows her to move between an infinite number of possible versions of her life.
As she dives into alternative realities, she gets insights into the locus her life could have taken for her contrasting decisions. After experiencing different realities she ends up with the realization that her “real life” was actually the best one she could have had.
This amazing book forced me to revisit Free Will from Sam Harris.
